11.Jul.2010 Shaun Tan’s Short Film: The Lost Thing

Don’t know how I missed this, but I was so excited to find out about this short a few minutes ago! The short is part of Sydney Film Festival last month and will take part in Melbourne International Film Festival later this year. It is based on Shaun Tan’s book The Lost Thing (1999). He’s been working with a Melbourne-based small team from 2002 to 2010 for this 15 minutes short. It’s 3D with 2D hand-painted textures. Like all Shaun Tan’s I think it’s amazing! Love! I haven’t read the book, but I will surely do so now, and also look for the film!

Find out more about the film from Shaun Tan’s website (many images from the book, concept arts, and the film)

  • Ooh!! Thanks for the heads-up about this! I absolutely LOVE shorts, so I’m super excited to learn about this one. And we both know just how much we love Shaun Tan. (Oh, and that trailer looks awesome.)

I LOVE short films too! Funny how I have always loved short films, but not as sure with short stories. I almost jumped up and down when I saw this trailer ;D

Oh, that looks amazing! I still haven’t been able to get any Shaun Tan books, but from what I’ve read on the blogosphere and judging by this wee trailer, I’m going to love him!!

  • Not read anything by Shaun Tan. The trailer looks fantastic though.

Wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing this!

Bit off topic, but Shaun Tan is speaking in a session at the Melbourne Writer’s Festival along with Neil Gaiman (Gaiman via video link).

Mae, Neil Gaiman and Shaun Tan will actually come to Sydney too for some events at Sydney Opera House in August! I’m too late for Gaiman events (what do you know), but I’m going to go to The Arrival orchestra based on Tan’s book (with a chance to meet him at signing at the end), so I’m excited! I was really disappointed that they ran out of tickets for the panel event with Gaiman and Tan. I thought, when else would I be able to get them talking in the same room. Sigh. I guess it’s not meant to be.
