01.Jun.2009 Mailbox Monday – The White Queen

I received The White Queen by Philippa Gregory from Ally, Simon and Schuster UK. It’s totally unexpected. I registered to be one of their reviewers and this is the first book they sent me.

The White Queen is scheduled to be released on 7th September 2009. The cover that I have is different with the cover on their website (check out the link). My cover has white flower on the front and red flower on the back side (as in pictures).

From the blurb:

In The White Queen Philippa Gregory brilliantly evokes the life of a common woman who ascends to royalty by virtue of her beauty, a woman who rises to the demands of her position and fights tenaciously for the survival of her family, a woman whose two sons become the central figures in a mystery that has confounded historians for centuries: the Princes in the Tower whose fate remains unknown to this day.

The Princes in the Tower! I read about it before on Wiki and it sounds so interesting. Now the book caught my interest! :)

Now I’ve never read Philippa Gregory’s before, though I’ve been wanting to read The Other Boleyn Girl (but my book is currently overseas with my mom, long story). I still hope to read The Other Boleyn Girl first before this one. Or maybe I just jump to it straight. We’ll see.

How about you and your mailbox this week? Have you read any of Philippa Gregory’s books? Which ones would you recommend? Any of you received the advanced copy of The White Queen?

OMG OMG OMG, (yes 3 OMGs is the amount of OMGness I feel) I love Phillipa Gregory novels and the Tale of the two princes intrigues me so much. Oh you lucky lucky girl! I live The Other Boylen Girl but I really enjoyed all of her books about the Tudor dynasty.

    Here’s my Mailbox! ~ Wendi

  • I loved The Other Boleyn Girl, but the rest of the Tudor series were a big disappointment to me. I have decided not to read any more of her books unless I read a rave review for it first. I look forward to your thoughts, but I’d be tempted to read this one before you read The Other Boleyn Girl, so you don’t set your opinion of her as an author too high, and you still have a treat in store for when you’ve finished The White Queen.

    gautami tripathy: Yea me too!

Trin: That’s great to hear! I hope I will enjoy this one!

Mary: Thanks! I hope so too!

Serena: Thanks! Enjoy your books too!

Suko: I hope I can get to it soon. So many books on the line!

    Kristen: Lucky me :)

Wendi B: I like it too, but that may not be the final cover from the looks from the publisher’s website and amazon.

Jackie: That’s a good idea, I’ll probably do that. She has probably written the Tudor series too quickly and that’s why not all of them are in best quality? That’s what I’m usually worried about if an author writes books in quick succession, that some quality is sacrificed for speed.
