20.Apr.2009 Mailbox Monday: OMG It’s Books Galore!

Mailbox Monday

Last week was crazy! I had the most books in my mailbox since.. ever!

img_1054-640x480

I got 10 books from bookclubgirl for being her 1000th follower! (Oh the joy of twittering!) They are (from bottom to top):

Deep Dish by Mary Kay Andrews
The Safety of Secrets by Delaune Michel
The Laws of Harmony by Judith Ryan Hendricks
We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver
Nothing is Quite Forgotten in Brooklyn by Alice Mattison
The Art of Social War by Jodi Wing
The Air Between Us by Deborah Johnson
(ARC)
Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos
Ines of My Soul by Isabel Allende
Captain Freedom by G. Xavier Robillard

Then I got an uncorrected proof copy (is that the same with ARC in Australia?) of Burnt Shadows by Kamile Shamsie from Australian independent publisher, Allen & Unwin.

That’s 11 books in total! Gosh, I can’t breathe. Thanks you two!

From the 10 books I got from bookclubgirl, I only recognize We Need to Talk About Kevin and Belong to Me (just because it’s featured in so MANY blogs). Apparently they’re probably not books that I usually read. (Oh I also know Isabel Allende of Zorro) I’d appreciate any comment if you have read any of them, or if you’ve read any book by the above authors.

ps: The rose on top of the books is my mom’s. She’s overseas at the moment but her roses just can’t stop blooming.

Congrats on all those books! I read Deep Dish and loved it. Enjoy!

  • Kristen says:

That’s quite a haul. I just recently read The Laws of Harmony and really enjoyed it. I have to say I am very jealous of Burnt Shadows as I really love Kamila Shamsie’s writing!

    Thanks folks!

Kathrin: That’s awesome! *hopping on the spot* I sent you an email.

Yvonne: I’ll keep that in mind yay.

Kristen: I’ve never heard of Kamila Shamsie before I saw Burnt Shadows. I did a quick wiki just now and found out that she has won and been nominated for various awards, and this particular book was long listed for Orange Prize. Quite impressive. I’m gonna get to it soon hopefully!

  • Jennifer says:

    Yay for new books! :)

I read We Need to Talk About Kevin awhile back and enjoyed it. It’s very thought-provoking. Can’t wait to hear what you think about it.

  • Wanda says:

11 books! That would keep me happy for a few months for sure. I haven’t read any in your stack and haven’t even heard of Ines of My Soul. What’s that one about?

  • Wow, what a fantastic pile of books you got! I’m a wee bit jealous! I’m dying to read Belong to Me, which is the sequel to Love Walked In (which I loved), as well as The Laws of Harmony, which just sounds really good. I also have The Safety of Secrets on my TBR pile. Most of the others I’ve never heard of. Enjoy!

  • Kathy says:

    What an awesome prize! Congratulations!

  • LUCKY YOU!!! Those all look fantastic! You have some reading to do now :)

  • mee says:

Jennifer: Yes I read the blurb and it does sound interesting! That’s probably the second book that I’ll read from the above pile. (First Burnt Shadows, which is just shortlisted for Orange Prize today!)

Wanda: It’s historical fiction recounts the life of Inés Suárez. Now I don’t know who she is, but from the blurb, she sounds important for the country of Chile :)

avisannschild: Thank you for the titles! I will note them!

Kathy: Thanks, I think it’s awesome too ;)

bethany: Lucky me! TBR pile is getting higher and higher! ;)

  • Wrighty says:

Wow! What a great week! I LOVED Belong To Me and I heard that Something About Kevin was very good too. I haven’t read Deep Dish yet but I’ve read other books by Mary Kay Andrews and they were good. I liked her humor. Enjoy!

  • Suko says:

    Lovely photo!

  • Callista says:

Wow congrats on winning so many books! At last year’s readathon I won twice and both times it was a box of books, 10 one time and 5 another. They didn’t come at the exact same time but wow if they had…

Anyways thanks for visiting me too. I like your blog!

  • Sheree says:

Mee there are more of us Aussie bloggers, 2 of my best friends in Brisbane are bookaholics (we do seem to be a rare breed LOL)

There’s an award waiting for you at my place :-)

Wrighty: Thanks for the recommended titles! Some books have got many votes and some books have not got any. Mmmhh..

Suko: Thanks, I like the photo too :)

Callista: Wow, that’s lots of books! I won 1 book at last year’s readathon, and 2 this year (have yet to make a post for that). I’m glad that I won anything at all actually. It’s just fun to win something :)

Sheree: Oh wee an award! Thanks! <3 I just found another Aussie blogger too today. Of course there should be more of us. Just need to keep looking ;)

  • J.S. Peyton says:

That is a VERY lovely stack! I hope you enjoy every single one. = )

  • Callista says:

Me again. I didn’t win anything this year at the readathon but that’s okay because of how much I won last year.

I’ve given you an award! Check it out here

  • Carl V. says:

Congratulations to you! What a wonderful prize!!! Lovely picture of your winnings as well.

  • mee says:

J.S. Peyton: I haven’t started one, but I do hope I enjoy at least half of them :P

Callista: Thanks for the award! I’ve written a post about my read-a-thon winnings and the awards.

Carl: Thanks, I think it’s wonderful prize too. I was ecstatic!
