I have read the second book in the series. I have to say that it’s still in the same vein as the first. I will try the third as people say it gets better on the third (or was it forth?) volume. I really hope it does for me, because so far I’m not so fond of it.

I started reading this book last year, got sidetracked about halfway through, then picked it back up and finished it a couple weeks ago. I had a lot of the same problems with it as you, though I’d already read a couple of Gaiman’s books, so I was loving the first few chapters simply because it was a Gaiman, man! I don’t know if the long break in between starting and finishing, but the last half of the book (consequently, the part that had “24 Hours” in it… creeptastic, much?) just drug on. I’ve not decided whether I want to read any more Sandman books ever again.

“24 Hours” is nightmare inducing stuff. And yes, the series does get much better after the first volume!
