15.Mar.2009 Sunday Salon: About A Movie and A Book
Hubby and I just watched a movie about the life of an amazing Mexican painter: Frida Kahlo, titled Frida. It’s adapted from the book: Frida: A Biography of Frida Kahlo by Hayden Herrer. Since it’s taken from a book, thought it’s worth mentioning here. Very nice, very well made. Her life story is so unique it couldn’t have been fiction :). I’ve never even heard of Frida Kahlo before until this week. Her paintings are the types that make you scratch your head and think. Being bedridden for a lot of portions of her life, she mostly drew self-portrait, as she said, “I paint myself because I am often alone and I am the subject I know best.”
Just yesterday, I brought home Tales of Terror by Edgar Allan Poe, got it from local charity shop for $4. Thought it was a bit much for an old secondhand book, but it still looks very nice, it’s hardcover, it’s black, and it’s Poe. I haven’t got any Poe. So I’m happy.
Reading wise, apart from finishing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I spent a few days dashing Sugarbabe by Holly Hill, an Australian new author. Review coming soon. Happy reading everyone!
