10.Mar.2009 Mailbox Monday and JLPT

mailbox

Mailbox Monday! It’s Tuesday here in Australia, but I believe it’s still Monday on the other part of the world *wink*. Yesterday I got a small package from Japan. Inside is Hear the Wind Sing by Haruki Murakami from Tanabata as I won giveaways that she held for her 3rd blog anniversary. Thank you Tanabata-san! Arigatou gozaimashita!

The book is so tiny, it’s very cute. Looks more like a pocket book than a full book. At the back part, there are pages and pages of translations from English to Japanese for a lot of words and phrases. Nice. Apparently the book is used for Japanese students to learn English. Don’t know how well it’d work for the people who do it the other way around (English learning Japanese), but I’m just happy to see all those hiragana and kanji. The book’s published by Kodansha International.

On the subject of Japanese, I just received my JLPT 3 (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) certificate yesterday too! It looks so formal with Japanese chops and everything. I’m very happy about it since I went to take the test after only a year of learning Japanese part time outside of Japan. From what I heard from people, it’s quite an accomplishment :). Now to get to the next level is another story… It’d be a long hard way full of thorns and rocks..

Congrats on getting your language certificate! I almost took Japanese in college, and then chickened out at the last minute. Maybe someday I’ll give it a try again. :)

I’m glad the book finally arrived! It really is tiny, isn’t it? I felt kind of bad sending such a small book, but I hope you enjoy it.
Congratulations on passing the third level of the JLPT! A few years ago I got level 3 but I doubt I could do it again right now since I’ve forgotten most of the kanji I knew. I’ve heard the gap between level 3 and level 2 is huge, but ganbatte! :)

    Thanks for the congrats everyone.

tanabata: No no the size by all means did not bother me, just interested me. Actually I saw a lot of Japanese novels have similar size when I went to one Japanese cafe. Shelves and shelves full of small size books, just like that Murakami’s one. Perhaps a tiny bit bigger, can’t really remember. About JLPT, I haven’t been studying since the test in November and I’m already worried I’m gonna lose everything bit by bit :(
