11.Mar.2009 Graphic Novels Challenge 2009

graphicnovel

1 January 2009 – 31 December 2009

As I’ve been reading a few graphic novels this year, thought it wouldn’t be too difficult for me to complete the Graphic Novels Challenge 2009. And we still have a whole year to complete it.

Rules
Choose a level of participation:
Minor: Read 6
Major: Read 12
Masters: Read 18
Doctorate: Read 24

For now I’m just aiming for Minor. But we’ll see, I may read more.

Update 12 Apr ’09 Since I’ve done with Minor, I’ll set myself up for Major. Seeing how I grew fond of graphic novels, I don’t think this will be a problem ;)

Update 5 Jun ’09 Woohoo! Done with Major! Going for Masters now!

Update 12 Dec ’09 Reached Masters. I haven’t been exactly aiming for any higher actually. It just happened.

    Hi Mee,

I was wondering if you could recommend me any graphic novels for the October 24 hrs read-a-thon? It’s a whole new genre to me but it seems like a good idea to get some for the change in variety. Of course I could read all your reviews… but that’ll take some time and I hoped you could recommend some out of the blue?! If it’s no trouble… :) Thanks!

Hi Gnoe, I highly recommend the two awesome graphic memoirs that I read this year and last year: Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and Maus by Art Spiegelman. Persepolis is a bit lighter in nature. The shorter ones: The Arrival by Shaun Tan, Ethel & Ernest by Raymond Briggs. Series to recommend: Fables by Bill Willingham, Bones by Jeff Smith. I posted reviews for all of them (you can use the search function for quick retrieval). The first three books I mentioned are all 5 stars for me! Hope you have a few to choose now! :)

Thanks a lot! As a matter of fact I have read Maus ( a long time ago, Mr Gnoe has it), but Persepolis is a great idea! Haven’t seen the movie (just parts of it) but of course I heard lots about it.
